The invasion of Ukraine has prompted Europe's LARGEST HUMANITARIAN CRISIS since World War II. Since February more than 13 million people have been displaced, fleeing from their homes and forced to seek refuge as refugees. 6.7 million have been dispersed throughout Europe, but another 6.6 million are internally displaced. It is anticipated that another 2 million will be displaced in the coming weeks. The local Slavic Churches wanted to do somehting about the crisis starting in March and now on their 3rd drive they have help thousands of people in Ukraine with food, clothing, medical supplies and more. The Oldest Brewery in Canyon County, Crescent Brewery, with Owner Jerry Fergusson

We had no idea the history behind Crescent Brewery in Nampa and the original facility built over 100 years ago. Owner, Jerry Fergusson, opened his Brewery in 2009 to reestablish the name and bring back the history of the original Crescent Brewery. That makes his brewery the oldest in Canyon County and the 3rd oldest in the Treasure Valley.

He has created a great down-home atmosphere with stout beers that people enjoy, and offerings like Blonde B*$ch, Skull Spliter and Tilted Kilt— you know his Irish blood comes out.

Jerry wants everyone to feel welcome— they have live entertainment, karaoke night and comedy nights— you are sure to have a great time.

Turning a Tragedy into an Inspiration with Chad Pfiefer

We had the honor of visiting with a local legend, Chad Pfiefer, who grew up in Caldwell, played baseball and was a like the "boy next door". He headed off to fight for his country, when his battalion hit an IED and it blew off his leg. In recovery and after he received his prosthetic leg, Chad found that golf was a great sport to play, to help him focus on something other than his missing limb,his depression and he found he actually enjoyed it!

He enjoyed it so much he ended up becoming a professional golfer, is sponsored and now plays in tournaments around the world.

Legos Bring Joy all over the Treasure Valley with Cindy Gassen, Founder of Brody's Bricks.

Who knew legos could bring so much joy to hurting kids all over the Treasure Valley! We had such a great interview with Cindy, Founder of Brody's Bricks, a non-profit who gives legos to St Lukes, Nampa Family Justice Center and any other place where kids need cheering up. This organization started because of a difficult circumstance in Cindy's own life, which you can read below

Brody's Bricks, Inc began on Good Friday. A few days prior we had gone into St. Luke's Children's Cancer Institute in Boise for some lab work. Unfortunately, Brody's labs weren't where they needed to be and they asked us to come back to begin infusion treatments. They've diagnosed him with an autoimmune disease and epilepsy. His body little body is just fighting itself.

We hadn't no idea he was going to need these treatments. Trying to cheer him up, I told him I had put a couple Lego sets aside at Bricknowlogy for him and his brother for Easter and maybe we could go get them when we were done.

During the infusion Brody overheard another little boy asking if there were any Batman Lego sets he hadn't already done. He leaned over to me and whispered, " He must be here a lot, mom." He then asked if we could donate his Legos to the hospital instead. He told me God put him there on Good Friday as a test. I was so proud of my son, but my heart heart for what he was experiencing so young.

After his treatment we returned with several Lego sets to donate. We posted a picture with my two sons, Daniel and Brody, and a couple of the St. Luke's Children's Cancer Institute nurses holding the Legos online. Friends and family started sending sets to donate!

We realized this could really be a positive thing for the children in our community. We applied for our non-profit status and so began Brody's Bricks, Inc! We've been so honored to help bring joy to children through out the Treasure Valley. We continue to donate multiple Lego sets monthly to St. Luke's Children's Cancer Institute. We also donate to Nampa Family Justice Center. We help fill Ronald McDonald House Charities of Idaho wish list as well as their pantry. We've been able to send multiple Lego care packages directly to the homes of children going through chemotherapy as well as packages for their siblings. We fill backpacks for foster care programs. We've donated close to 300 hygiene kits!

We have an absolutely amazing community who has shown an overwhelming response to Brody's hope of helping other children going through similar health situations!

I grew up most of my years in Nampa, so we talk about that, the example of being an entrepreneur we had from our parents and our Christmas traditions.

How to find Happiness when Holidays are Hard with Marriage and Family Counselor, Ken Curtis

John and I know the Holidays can be hard for many, especially when you are experiencing the loss of loved ones. How do we celebrate this season without them in our lives? How do we honor them and still celebrate with others? John lost his father over 3 years ago and we have asked these same questions.

Ken Curtis has been an integral part in our lives through the last 10 years. His wisdom, counseling and perspective have helped John and me work through some of the most difficult mountains in our marriage. We wanted to share him with all of you, especially if this is a difficult season of your life and hope this can help bring some perspective and some hope to your situation.

Here is a little more about Ken Curtis:

Born in 1947, In 1995 Ken retired from his first career as a paralegal in the United States Air Force at Mountain Home Air Force Base. One of the last criminal justice cases he worked on inspired him to choose counseling as a second career. A fellow who attended his church lost his temper with a two-year old son and hit him so hard it killed him. The mother of this fellow testified in court and showed pictures of his son's injuries when his father lost his temper and threw his so hard his head went through a wall.

After graduating from Boise State University as a Social Worker, Ken started his counseling career at Idaho's maximum-security prison in 2000. He likes to say for 23 years he helped put men in prison and then for 10 years he helped them get out of prison. The heartbreaking family stories told by many inmates inspired Ken to earn a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling in 2011 from Northwest Nazarene University. He believes that helping families be more functional is the best way to prevent men from going to prison. He is now mostly retired doing some consulting speaking such as an occasional pod cast.

He celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. He has 5 children, 17 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Our guest today is a local business owner of Jalapenos Bar and Grill Restaurants, located in the Treasure Valley. We sure love Irma Valdivia and the leadership heart she has to impact our community.

Here’s a little more about her Irma:

Irma Valdivia is the middle child out of 10 children. Her family moved to Idaho when Irma was a young girl. Irma grew up in Emmett, Idaho working in the fields all over the treasure valley, mostly the Nampa area. Irma has wanted to change the world and help others ever since she can remember. She took nothing for granted and worked harder than anyone around her to make the American dream come true. Irma’s biggest accomplishment is raising her daughter into a soon to be college graduate. Her passion is serving her community and is on the Board of Directors for the Nampa Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors for Saint Alphonsus Community Board, and will be accepting a position on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Nampa for 2022. Irma thanks her succes of owning 3 Jalapenos Restaurants in giving her the platform to serve her community, a dream come true. Irma is a mother, mentor, a motivational speaker, a servant to her community, but most importantly she is a proud American citizen who wants to continue to make our world a better place to live by giving and doing all she can, according to Irma she is only getting started.

A Local Shoe That Impacts the World!

Today we have, Kenton Lee, as our guest.

Kenton Lee is the founder of Because International and the creator of their first project The Shoe That Grows. After spending time living at a small orphanage in Kenya he had the idea for a shoe that could expand its size. It took six years to work on the idea. But he and his friends succeeded in developing a shoe that can grow five sizes and last for years. The cause accidentally went viral in 2015. And now there are over 350,000 pairs of The Shoe That Grows on the feet of kids in over 100 countries. Kenton and his wife Nikki live in Nampa, Idaho with their two kids.

Destination Caaldwell is a 501 (c) (3) organization that creates high-impact projects which leverage our agricultural heritage and rich community spirit to build a prosperous future for Caldwell.

With the help of business and civic leaders, we’re making our community an even more desirable place to live, do business and visit.

Destination Caldwell was formed in 2013 by a grassroots team of local citizens, downtown property owners, and business leaders seeking to create better opportunities to live, work and play. In 2018, the organization was able to hire staff to continue this work on a daily basis.

It was so great to talk with Sabrina about all the impact that this organization makes for the city of Caldwell. It has been impressive to see how they work so well with the City officials to improve and keep growing for businesses and citizens alike. When you come to Caldwell now, it's an experience that will make you come back for more.

We talked about what's going on at the Indian Creek Plaza during the holidays.

Winter Wonderland is coming this weekend, November 19-21st, 6-9pm. This event will launch the beautiful lights that are all around downtown Caldwell as well as the Ice Skating Ribbon on the plaza. Please pray for cold enough weather to make the ice in the next couple of days.

Making Events Beautiful with Ashely from Blush Creek Rentals

Ashley, a Middleton based business has created a brilliant concept of renting out pieces of furniture she found to fix up, built or unique pieces she purchased for parties, weddings and other events. She started in a few storage units and now has her own warehouse on her home property that makes her work much easier. It was so great to hear how she weathered the pandemic and supported other local businesses in her industry while that was happening. It also was fun to hear how she slightly pivoted and how she is doing now.

Performing Arts, Making an Impact in Caldwell with Allison Moulton from Caldwell Performing Arts

Caldwell Performing Arts is a hidden gem in Caldwell. Allison has done such a great job of getting this community of all ages connected to the arts in so many creative ways. From the Nutcracker and Clara's Tea Party to hosting international performers from China, South America, Europe and beyond.

`Alison also involves the community by creating projects for them to participate and be able to express themselves in a variety of ways. One of the most recent ones is Silver Lining that was displayed at Flying M in Caldwell. Alison shares more about that in our interview.

Canyon County Dutch Bros & Mesa Tacos- Yum!

What do all of the Canyon County Dutch Bros and Mesa Tacos have in common? They have the same owner! Meet the fabulous Andrew and Shayna Randall. It was so fun to chat with this inspiring couple. They have innovation with no limits and a heart of gold to serve and empower their employees as well as make an impact in our Canyon County where it is needed. They were told that 2C is a horrible place to start a business back in 2007, but they took that as a challenge and now has proved them wrong with 9 successful Dutch Bros Coffee drive throughs and a Nampa favorite, Mesa Tacos Restaurant.

I know you are going to love getting to know this couple, join me for this fun conversation.

Andrew and Shayna Randall both began their journey with Dutch Bros Coffee in 2004, when the first Dutch Bros location opened in their hometown of Redding, CA. They both were hired on for the original crew while they were in college, shortly after started dating and were married in 2005.

Management opportunities came as more locations opened in Redding with each of them becoming a store manager; eventually leading to positions with the Dutch Bros HQ "All Star Team", allowing Andrew & Shayna the opportunity to travel to the western seven states, opening new locations for new franchisees and training new employees. It was very apparent that the Randalls’ knew what they wanted their future to look like, so they began their journey to becoming franchisees, leading them to Idaho!

In December 2007, they opened their first location on Cleveland and Ustick. In February of 2011 that Caldwell location became the top grossing location in Dutch Bros history. On August 21st, 2012, the Randall’s opened their second location in neighboring Nampa, ID. By July 2013 it had already topped Ustick's sales and took the #1 Spot for top grossing Dutch Bros Location Company wide.

On October 24th, 2013, the second Nampa location opened on Idaho Center Blvd and has quickly gained momentum and has landed in the top 25 grossing stands company-wide with their other two locations in the top three out of 230 locations. On May 27th, 2015, the third Nampa stand opened on 12th Ave Rd. Additionally, a second Caldwell location on Specht opened on September 15, 2017, and has quickly gained a reputation.

On July 1st, 2020, the Randalls acquired two Dutch Bros Meridian locations, and one Eagle, ID locations. Additionally, opened a location near the Marketplace in Nampa, ID, on March 5th, 2021. Currently they have nine total Dutch Bros Locations, and several more slated to open in 2022.

Andrew and Shayna have also been in various work group and committees for Dutch Bros HQ, including marketing, operations, growth, design, and product development. This includes being on a small team of six people that created the Dutch Bros energy drink, Blue Rebel; sold exclusively at Dutch Bros locations and makes up for more than 20% of sales company wide. Additionally, Andrew is also responsible for the building design that is now used as the official building of DB Franchising, USA.

With a love for their community and a need for something new, Andrew and Shayna made the decision to open Mesa Tacos + Tequila in downtown Nampa. Known for its lively tequila menu, and unordinary tacos, Mesa has gained a reputation for being “THE” place to eat in Nampa, ID. Currently, on its way to its 3rd anniversary, Mesa employs 30 employees.

Always up for a challenge, Andrew and Shayna realized there was a demand for a clean, reef-safe sunscreen, and launched 21 Sun Co, in the middle of the pandemic. With distribution of this product local, they have been able to have their product in many of the local centers you visit, including but not limited to: Albertsons, & Tamarack Resorts.

As a leader, Shayna has been asked to speak at various organizations and for various causes, including, but not limited to: Nampa Family Justice Center Keynote Speaker for A Light in the Window, and the Nampa Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Panel for Creating a Dynamic Workforce in a Diverse Culture. Both Andrew and Shayna Randall have received awards for Accomplished Under 40 by the Idaho Business Review.

The Randalls’ currently have close to 500 employees.

Andrew and Shayna have two incredible children, Griffin & Saylor. With a love of adventure and a passion for people, Andrew and Shayna Randall are committed to expanding, growing, and making an impact on their community.
