Brombal is a comic book writer based in Toronto, Canada. His comic series House of Slaughter at BOOM! Studios with artist Chris Shehan spun out of James Tynion IV & Werther Dell’Edera’s hit Something is Killing the Children and debuted in 2021. Jude Ellison S. Doyle is an author, journalist, and comic book writer living in upstate New York.

Under his former pen name “Sady Doyle,” Jude founded the feminist blog Tiger Beatdown in 2008. He is the author of Trainwreck: The Women We Love to Hate, Mock, and Fear... and Why (Melville House 2016), which has been called "smart, funny and fearless" (Boston Globe), "compelling" and "persuasive" (New York Times Book Review). The Atlantic predicted that "Trainwreck will very likely join the feminist canon."

Doyle’s second book, Dead Blondes and Bad Mothers: Monstrosity, Patriarchy and the Fear of Female Power (Melville House, 2019) was named a Best Non-Fiction Book of 2019 by Kirkus Reviews and was shortlisted for Starburst Magazine’s Brave New Words award. Crook is a comic book artist and writer. After more than a decade of working in the video game industry, he transitioned to creating comics in 2011 with his first book, Petrograd. This effort won him the coveted Russ Manning Promising Newcomer award. In the years since then he has worked on titles like The Sixth Gun, BPRD: Hell on Earth, Witchfinder, Black Hammer, and most notably Harrow County, which was nominated for an Eisner award.

In 2022, Tyler released The Lonesome Hunters, the first comic book series he both wrote and drew. New York City policeman John McClane is visiting his estranged wife on Christmas Eve. He joins her at a holiday party in the headquarters of the Japanese-owned business she works for. But the festivities are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise, and everyone in it. Very soon McClane realizes that there's no one to save the hostages, but him.

Die Hard was directed by John McTiernan and written by Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza, based on the 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp. It stars Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, Alexander Godunov, and Bonnie Bedelia, with Reginald VelJohnson, William Atherton, Paul Gleason, and Hart Bochner in supporting roles.

Over the years, there has been much debate over whether the film is a Christmas movie. Some have defended that since Die Hard's Christmas setting is enough to classify the movie as a Christmas film. While others, argue that it is an action film whose events happen to take place at Christmas.

Centered on an invulnerable superhero with type 1 diabetes, the story was placed on the American Library Association’s Best Graphic Novels for Adults reading list and was a finalist for the Excellence in Graphic Literature Awards. Additionally, he is known for his Image Comics supernatural adventure series The Cabinet with co-creator David Ebeltoft and artist Chiara Raimondi. Recently he has released one-shot comics including Dread the Halls, Dread the Hall H, and more.

Chris Ryall is the co-founder and publisher at Syzygy Publishing, an imprint at Image Comics, that launched in January 2022 with the Eisner-nominated Joe Hill’s Rain. He is also the writer and co-creator of Syzygy titles Zombies vs Robots, Onyx, The Hollows, and Tales of Syzpense, among other titles. Prior to forming Syzygy, Ryall spent nearly two decades developing unique stories from multiple sides of the business.

Prior to founding Syzygy Publishing, Ryall served as IDW Publishing's Editor-in-Chief, Chief Creative Officer, President, and Publisher over his long tenure with the publisher. He also worked with creators Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez in the development of Locke & Key, serving as editor on the acclaimed comic series and as an EP on its three-season Netflix series. Additionally, in 2017 joined Robert Kirkman and David Alpert’s Skybound Entertainment as Editor-in Chief and Special Projects in a gap at IDW. Ryall also authored Marvel Age of Comics: Daredevil: Born Again which hit bookstores everywhere on November 11, 2025.

Covert government assassin Al Simmons is killed after being double-crossed by his boss, Jason Wynn. Upon arriving in Hell, Simmons is offered an opportunity to return to Earth if he's willing to lead an evil army. He accepts, and is reincarnated as a "Hellspawn" – a twisted, horribly disfigured version of his former self. However, Spawn serves as a force of good, much to the dismay of the Devil's henchman, a wicked clown.

McElroy and Dippé, and stars Michael Jai White as the titular character, alongside John Leguizamo as The Violator, Martin Sheen as CIA Director Jason Wynn, Theresa Randle as Wanda Blake, D. B. The theme of this year’s event is Censorship Is So 1984 — Read for Your Rights.

The most common justifications for censorship provided by complainants were false claims of illegal obscenity for minors; inclusion of LGBTQIA+ characters or themes; and covering topics of race, racism, equity, and social justice.

When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper and grizzled ship captain Quint offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.

Jaws was written by Peter Benchley and Carl Gottlieb, based on the novel by Benchley, and directed by Steven Spielberg. Tromaville has a monstrous new hero. A 98-pound nerd from New Jersey lands in a vat of toxic waste and becomes a benevolent monster. Now evildoers will have a lot to lose.

The Toxic Avenger was produced and directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman (Samuel Weil) from a screenplay by Joe Ritter, based on a story by Kaufman. The film stars Mitch Cohen as Melvin Ferd / The Toxic Avenger, Andree Maranda as Sara, Pat Ryan Jr. as Peter Belgoody, Jennifer Babtist as Wanda, Robert Prichard as Slug, Cindy Manion as Julie, Gary Schneider as Bozo, Mark Torgl as Melvin pre-mutation, and Kenneth Kessler as the voice of The Toxic Avenger.

Troma Entertainment released the film initially on April 14, 1984. During the next year, it had a long run as the midnight movie on the single screen of the Bleeker Street Cinema in New York City. Two years later on April 4, 1986, the film opened on 45 screens and earned $140,000 for its opening weekend. The movie released by Troma on VHS and Betamax in 1986 and for the first time on DVD on March 25, 1998. Troma released the film on Blu-ray on August 12, 2014.

The Toxic Avenger is getting a reboot written and directed by Macon Blair releasing on August 29, 2025 which stars stars Peter Dinklage as the title character, alongside Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon.

This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes back comic book retailer Paul Eaton to the program to discuss Back to the Future in honor of the film's 40th Anniversary.

In this 1980s sci-fi classic, small-town California teen Marty McFly is thrown back into the '50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents, and must make sure that they fall in love or he'll cease to exist. Even more dauntingly, Marty has to return to his own time and save the life of Doc Brown.

It stars Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, Christopher Lloyd as Emmett "Doc" Brown, Lea Thompson as Lorraine Baines McFly, Crispin Glover as George McFly, and Thomas F. Wilson as Biff Tannen. The 1985 portion of the film features a cast including Claudia Wells as Marty's girlfriend Jennifer Parker, and Marc McClure and Wendie Jo Sperber as Marty's siblings Dave McFly and Linda McFly. Elsa Raven plays the Clocktower Lady. Singer Huey Lewishas a cameo role as a judge for the Battle of the Bands contest. Richard L. Duran and Jeff O'Haco portray the Libyan terrorists.

The film was released on July 3, 1985 and is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

They recently released the TRVE KVLT trade paperback they co-created and illustrated with writer Scott Bryan Wilson at IDW Publishing as well as the original graphic novel, Mariko Between Worlds, they illustrated and co-created with writer Matthew Erman for Mad Cave Studios. The trade paperback of Know Your Station they illustrated and co-created along with writer Sarah Gailey. his local comic shops on September 20, 2023 from BOOM! Studios.

Kangas illustrated short written by James Tynion IV for Razorblades, published by Image Comics and contributed to a short with David M. Booher on Canto: Tales of the Unnamed World.

Foxe is the Eisner and Ringo Award-nominated author of over 80 comics and children's books including Spider-Woman, Dark X-Men, X-Men '97, All Eight Eyes, Rainbow Bridge, the Skybound Creepshow anthology, the 2023 Marvel Voice's: Pride special, and the Spider-Ham series from Scholastic. Along with character designer Kris Anka, he is the co-creator of Web-Weaver, Marvel's first gay Spider-hero.

He is also the co-creator of Razorblades: The Horror Magazine alongside James Tynion IV, and is the editor of W0RLDTR33, The Deviant, and the multiple-Eisner-nominated The Department of Truth at Image Comics. In the world of licensed kids books, he has written for properties like Pokémon, Mario, LEGO City, Batman, Justice League, Baby Shark, and many more.

He is also a freelance editor for First Second; was the editor for Paste Magazine's comic section (when it existed); has contributed to PanelxPanel, The MNT, and The Comics Journal; and spent five years at Knopf Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Penguin Random House.

Hull is an author, screenwriter, and filmmaker based out of Indiana. He's the co-screenwriter of Glorious, a 2022 Lovecraftian horror film starring Ryan Kwanten and the Academy Award winning J.K. Simmons. He is a past winner of the Edward Johnson-Ott Hoosier Award for his contributions to Indiana film by the Indiana Film Journalists Association. His debut novella Mouth was published by Tenebrous Press in March 2024. His novel debut, 8114, hits shelves everywhere on August 26, 2025.

John Henry Irons is a weapons designer for the United States military. When his project to create weapons that harmlessly neutralize soldiers is eradicated, he resigns in disgust. When he sees criminal gangs are using the weapons that he helped manufacture on the street, he uses his resources and his Uncle Joe's equipment in his junkyard to fight back against the man who's been selling them to those gangs: Nathaniel Burke. In order to do so he uses the resources that are available to him to forge himself a suit of armor and the weaponry necessary to carry out his war on crime.

Steel was released in 1997 and is based on the DC Comics character of the same name which was co-created by Louise Simonson and Jon Bogdanove. The film was written and directed by Kenneth Johnson and stars Shaquille O'Neal as John Henry Irons / Steel; Annabeth Gish as Susan Sparks; Judd Nelson as Nathaniel Burke; Richard Roundtree as Uncle Joe; Irma P. Brisson is a comic book writer who first started to garner attention with his self-published crime series Murder Book. He broke into the public spotlight in 2012 with the crime/time-travel thriller series Comeback. In the short time since then, he's written and co-created four other series published by Image: Sheltered, The Field, The Mantle and The Violent. His self-published series Murder Book was collected and released by Dark Horse in early 2015.

It's that time of the year once again! Our good friend and Galactic Comics & Collectibles shop owner, Paul Eaton, joins us again this year to countdown our favorite comics of 2024. This year, as in the past, both Justin and Paul discuss MOSTLY independent comics.

For the first time, the comics of the year episode was recorded in front of a live audience. We took over Galactic Comics & Collectibles and invited the public to join us while counting down the comics of the year. With this, we welcomed a few questions and comments from the audience.

Horvath is a filmmaker and comic book creator best known for IDW Publishing's Eisner-nominated comic book series Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees as well as the 2025 followup Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring. Horvath is also the mind behind the Zoop funded and Oni Press soon-to-be released Free For All.

Martin started his career as a cartoonist, creating the nationally syndicated strip Tommy before segueing into film and working as storyboard artist on such films as The Amazing Spider-Man 2,  Constantine, I Am Legend, Ad Astra, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He directed his first music video for Death Cab for Cutie’s The New Year and has continued on, directing clips for a wide variety of artists – Kelly Clarkson, Shawn Mendes (Stitches, Mercy, Never Holding Me Back, In My Blood, Lost in Japan), Tiesto & Post Malone (Jackie Chan), Cold War Kids, Nas, Melissa Etheridge, Christina Perri and many, many more.

In 2015, he wrote and directed his first feature film, 7 Minutes starring Jason Ritter, Luke Mitchell and Kris Kristofferson. In 2018 his video for Shawn Mendes In My Blood was nominated for three MTV VMAs including Best Direction. In 2019, he executive produced the Blumhouse feature Don’t Let Go starring David Oyelowo and Storm Reid.

Jay Martin released his original graphic novel, Lost Boy, in August 2023 from Dark Horse with letters by Frank Cvetkovic. While his latest graphic novel, Yellow, hits bookstores everywhere on December 17, 2024 and comic shops on December 18. Martin is also serving as storyboard artist for Sony's Spider-Man Noir television series featuring Nicolas Cage set to stream on MGM+.
