The Romans Biblical Exposition series you are now listening to consists of sixteen chapters in total. This first volume covers chapters 1 through 5. The content is organized by topic and divided into three sections: Biblical Exposition, Sermon, and Question-and-Answer.

When Looking at Romans from the Perspective of the Gospel of the Water and the Spirit,
Even while saying they have received the eradication of sins, there are many people who still look at their own sins and condemn themselves. However, if you open this text holding onto the gospel that Jesus received the transfer of the sins of the world by receiving baptism from John, received the judgment for those sins on the cross, and then resurrected, you will finally begin to see why the Apostle Paul asserted, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”
The Apostle Paul reveals that our old man, who was baptized into Christ, died together and was made alive together with Him, and honestly exposes the fact that the law cannot make us holy. Upon that, he proclaims the confirmed salvation of the one whose condemnation has disappeared, and through his sorrow toward Israel, he testifies that salvation comes not by human zeal but only by God’s mercy.
A person who believes in the gospel of the water and the Spirit knows that they themselves are already dead to sin and alive to God. Even if the flesh is still weak, that weakness cannot turn them back into a slave of sin again. The person who lays down the zeal to establish their own righteousness and accepts with their heart the righteousness that God has already accomplished will not be put to shame and will enjoy the richness of the Lord’s grace.
Salvation has already been completed once and for all. What remains now is to accept the gospel of the water and the Spirit with the heart, and to live preaching that gospel in newness of life.

It is the hope that everyone who reads this book will lay down the burden of sin remaining in their hearts and surrender before the truth of salvation that God has already perfectly accomplished through Jesus Christ. Today, numerous people confess that they believe in Jesus, yet in their hearts they cannot shake off the questions, “Am I truly saved? Why do I still feel like a sinner?” I know well how deep that agony is. And I also know where the root of that agony lies. It is precisely because they know only half of the gospel.

And entering chapter 6, he mentions the “baptism” that Jesus received from John. There is a clear reason for this. When he proclaimed at the end of chapter 5, “But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more” (Romans 5:20), some people misunderstood, saying, “If so, doesn’t the grace of God become more abundant the more a person commits sin?” The Apostle Paul sternly refutes such misunderstanding at the very beginning of chapter 6. “Certainly not.” The core here is the expression “we who died to sin.” The Apostle Paul declares toward the people who are in Christ, “You are those who died to your sins.” This is not a word to arouse moral determination or exertion of will. It was to make them believe the ministry of salvation that has already occurred in Jesus Christ.

Romans 7 is one of the paragraphs where the Apostle Paul deeply explains the relationship between the law, sin, and Christ. The text teaches how the old man, who was bound to the law, was put to death through the body of Christ. It also shows the way for the saints to newly unite with the resurrected Christ and serve in the newness of the Spirit. At the same time, while honestly diagnosing the conflict between the mind and the flesh that occurs daily even in the saints who have received the removal of sins, it clearly reveals that the One who delivers us from the body of death is only our Lord Jesus Christ. From the perspective of the gospel of the water and the Spirit, this chapter is a spiritual diagnosis and prescription that shows the holiness of the law, the limits of man, and the work Christ accomplished once and for all in a single flow.

Today, many people speak about being born again. However, there are many people who do not accurately know the being born again that the Bible speaks of. Some people think they are born again if they diligently attend church. Some people think they are born again if they pray fervently and cry out with a loud voice. Some people think that is being born again if they speak in tongues or have some emotional experience. And some people think they are born again if they learn Christian doctrine well and call Jesus Lord.

Everyone, today we are going to think together about “what being born again is” through the words of Romans chapter 7, verses 1 to 6.

Second is that a human sold under sin comes to escape the wrath of the law and gain new life by believing in Jesus Christ.

There is something that actually exists even for a person who has received the removal of sin. That is the flesh. Because we are still living on this earth clothed in the flesh, there are thoughts of the flesh. However, at the same time, the Holy Spirit is in our hearts. The Spirit of God is in the person who has received the removal of sin by believing in the gospel of the water and the Spirit. Therefore, there are also thoughts of the Spirit.

It means He does not look at them as those who have sin. It means He does not determine them as those who are under God’s judgment.

At the end of Romans chapter 7, Apostle Paul saw the reality of his flesh and confessed like this: “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?” Everyone has flesh. Even a born-again person has flesh. This flesh cannot perfectly keep God’s law, and has the weakness of leaning toward evil even while desiring good.

This is a word that proclaims how great and amazing the glory is that the people who became children of God by believing the gospel of the water and the Spirit will receive in the future. It means that the suffering, weakness of the flesh, sickness, aging, darkness of the world, and the toil and persecution we receive while serving the gospel that we experience on this earth right now cannot be compared with the glory that will be revealed in us in the future.

This word shows that there are two laws within a person. One is the law of sin and death, and the other is the law of the Spirit who gives life in Jesus Christ. Because the law of the Spirit is stronger than the law of sin and death, it liberates the born-again person from the power of sin and death. Therefore, the person who is in Jesus Christ by believing in the gospel of the water and the Spirit is no longer under condemnation, but comes to live in the new life given by the Holy Spirit.

He said that he tells the truth in Christ and does not lie. He said that his conscience bears witness in the Holy Spirit. For what reason was he in such pain? It was because of the salvation of his kinsmen according to the flesh, that is, the people of Israel.

He said that he tells the truth in Christ and does not lie. He said his conscience bears witness in the Holy Spirit. Because of what was his heart so in pain? It was because of the salvation of his kinsmen according to the flesh, that is, the people of Israel.

Romans chapter 10 is the text that inherits the deep sorrow that the Apostle Paul poured out toward his flesh-and-blood relatives, Israel, in chapter 9. Paul clearly diagnoses here the reason why they became far from salvation. It shows how that attitude of trying to establish their own righteousness without knowing the righteousness of God, even though their religious zeal was more fervent than anyone else’s, made them far from salvation. Next, it step-by-step unravels the fact that Christ became the end of the law, and how the simple response of accepting that fact with the heart moves a person to the position of the righteous. Finally, it shows how that truth is transmitted to all Gentiles through the process leading from being sent to preaching, from preaching to hearing, and from hearing to faith. When reading along the text from the perspective of the gospel of the water and the Spirit, the outline of the truth taught by the Apostle Paul is revealed more clearly.

Beloved saints, today we would like to share the word through the words of Romans chapter 10, verses 1 to 4, under the title “Believe in God’s Righteousness and Receive Blessings.” The Apostle Paul said in today’s main text that his heart’s desire and prayer to God is for the salvation of Israel.
