Here, “beautiful stones” refers to the splendid stones used to adorn the temple, while “donations” refers to the gifts that people had dedicated to God. To that extent, this temple was the pride and self-respect of the people of Israel. Luke begins that conversation as follows: “As some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and donations, He said” (Luke 21:5). When people’s attention gathered on the visible temple, Jesus led their gaze before the word of God.

The Lord spoke of peace, but the disciples were terrified and frightened and thought they were seeing a spirit. Even those who had heard the good news, when they actually saw Jesus before their eyes, could not easily accept that He was alive. The Lord did not leave their fear and doubt as they were; He showed them His hands and feet, and He took food and ate in their presence. The Lord Himself made clear what kind of resurrection Jesus’ resurrection was.
