In Episode four of Black Spartacus, as Toussaint’s alliance with the French goes from strength to strength the resentment of the mixed race Mulattoes reaches boiling point. Was their leader, Rigaud, behind the conspiracy to assassinate Toussaint?

After General Laveaux, names Toussaint his Commander-in-Chief, a river has been crossed over which there can be no return. When Dessalines discovers a secret plan for a Mulattoe State, can a bloodthirsty struggle to the death between blacks and Mulattoes be averted?

Soon Toussaint, and his increasingly restless generals Dessalines and Christophe, must face an even bigger threat in the form of an invasion from France’s new leader, Emperor Napoleon, sworn to throwing these “gilded Africans” back into bondage. While storm clouds gather across the Atlantic Marie must take refuge in a cave and undergo the rituals to become a Voudou priestess.

Will the Voudou god, Damballa, finally reveal himself to her so she can take her rightful place as a bold spiritual leader in the struggle ahead?

In Episode Three of Black Spartacus as the Slave Uprising consumes the Caribbean colony of St.Domingue, redefining the terms “master” and “slave”, Toussaint L’Ouverture and his rebel army , now encamped in the hills, desperately need supplies to sustain them.

Having joined the rebels, Marie is tormented by the spirits of the dead in her sleep. Could this be a sign that her powers are maturing and she will soon be ready to take her place as a Voudou priestess? Mambo Cecile thinks so! Enthralled by an impressive young officer, Dessalines, who takes her under his wing, she is increasingly smitten. But with his enigmatic moods and tortured soul will love between them manage to find a way?

Soon much needed support for Toussaint and his tattered rebel army comes in the form of an offer of an alliance from General Laveaux, leader of the French Army in the Colony. Should Toussaint accept the alliance, or should he commit himself to fighting to the death with the nation that once dared to call him and his people “slaves”?

In Episode Two of Black Spartacus Toussaint L’Ouverture must choose between staging an uprising on behalf of the Royalist Planters, led by the sinister Count of Charlevoix, against the revolutionaries from Paris, in return for abolition of the whip on all plantations, or launching a full scale slave uprising. One stark question remains. Can the Count, among the cruelest of all planters in the Colony, be trusted?

DESCRIPTION

As a growing air of intrigue and conspiracy gathers pace on the Breda Plantation, Marie, unsettled by all the secret talk of an uprising is caught spying on the plotting slaves. Can she balance her loyalty to her mistress with the rising call to freedom by her fellow slaves? As events unfold beyond anyone’s control how much longer can she go on ignoring the charismatic visionary Boukman’s prophecy that liberty is at hand for all slaves?

Once Boukman gives the signal at a Voudou ritual to appease the spirits of war an irrevocable gulf will soon open between “slaves” and “masters” and the time for choosing will be over…

Black Spartacus from Thee Black Swan tells the story of Toussaint L’Ouverture, the most prominent leader of the Haitian Revolution. In episode one of Black Spartacus not everything is as it is appears on the seemingly tranquil Breda Plantation in the French Caribbean colony of St. Domingue (Haiti).

It is 1791 and strange rumours of liberty and the equality of all men have begun to reach the ears of the slaves toiling on the land courtesy of the bloody revolution convulsing the colonial motherland of France. Is it possible that the principles of liberty, brotherhood and equality could apply to a nation of brutalised black slaves? The white masters think not, but one man, Toussaint L’Ouverture, an ex-slave himself, has other ideas. Trusted by all factions in the colony, whites, blacks, and the increasingly powerful mixed race “Mulattoes” Toussaint sets about exploiting the divisions between the Royalist planters and the Revolutionaries from France to create an opening out of which true equality for the slaves may come.

An illiterate ex-slave , without training, who had no choice but to find greatness as a leader to rescue his people from a dark chapter of history? In this he is assisted by the fearless meddling Voudou Priestess, Mambo Cecile, and by a young faithful house slave, Marie, poised to undergo an extraordinary transformation from a timid servant to a woman who for the first time dares to dream of freedom and beyond…
