Many of Jones' charismatic traits were seen early. He deceived hundreds of people through fake healings and eventually convinced them to move to northern California. He did a lot of the same things there, and then they moved to Guyana where his socialist utopia fell apart. In November 1978 nearly 1,000 people died by murder/suicide in Jonestown.
