Every year, Living Hope Church hosts a week long "Vacation Bible Experience" (VBX) for children ages 0 through 12. Pastor Gerald Shearman, our Youth Ministry Director, brings us the message of this year's VBX, which wrapped up yesterday, "Kingdom Keepers." The curriculum (by Answers in Genesis) walked the children through the Armor of God from Ephesians 6:10-18, teaching them about the tools that God has given us to resist Satan as we further His kingdom.

2025-02-16 - A Biting Betrayal

There are many prophecies that Jesus fulfilled in His time on Earth, including the prophecy in Psalm 41 and 55 that He would be betrayed by a close friend for 30 pieces of silver (which was also prophecied in Zachariah 11). Jesus even told Judas to his face and in front of the other disciples that Judas would betray Jesus, yet Judas still went though with the betrayal in exactly the way that Jesus and the prophets had predicted. What does this teach us about who Jesus, ourselves, and who we ought to be?

For the second week of Advent we light the Bethlehem Candle, or the Candle of Love. Guest Speaker Dr. Wayne House revisits the first story in the Bible that takes place in Bethlehem, which happens to also be one of the greatest love stories in the Bible: the story of Ruth and Boaz.

God is barely mentioned in the book of Ruth, but the story of Ruth shows how God orchestrated the lives of two otherwise inconsequential people, Ruth and Boaz, to begin the family from whom David and Jesus would eventually come, and to foreshadow His plan of redemption for the whole world. In the same way, though we do not see God acting through our daily lives and mundane choices, God is quietly moving the world toward Jesus' second coming, just as carefully as He prepared the way for the first.

2024-06-02 - Jesus, Strong and Kind

Pastor Dooba continues our series in the Gospel of John called "That You May Believe" with John 6:1-21.

Verses 1 through 14 recount Jesus' feeding of the 5,000. In this one miracle, Jesus displays His mastery over the phyiscal realm and demonstrates the kindness He has for those who seek him.

Verses 15 through 21 tell of when Jesus walked on the water of the Sea of Galilee. Sometimes we encounter hard times in the process of doing what God has sent us to do, but Jesus is powerful enough to save and never too far off to help us.

Both of these stories show us that we should persevere and be generous with our time and what we have, even if we alone are not enough to meet the whole need we see. If we are doing His will, Jesus Himself will provide the rest.

Today we take a break from our series in John for a Pentacost message from Acts 1:8 by Pastor Dooba. Pentacost today is the celebration of the receiving of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was given so that we can be a witness for Jesus. Evangelism without the Holy Spirit is unBiblical and prideful. The Holy Spirit can use the best and highest dollar evangelism programs that we have to offer, or the honest unfiltered words of a five year old stating the obvious: Salvation is the work of God inside someone's heart, and the role of the Holy Spirit in this cannot be overemphasized.
