1. Only Those Born of The Word of Promise Are God’s Children (Genesis 17:1-22)

Today I am going to talk about Abraham, namely the father of faith; I want to look into the issue about who he was and how God worked towards him. God appeared before Abraham quite often after he left his hometown, namely, Ur of the Chaldeans. The first time God appeared to Abraham was when he reached a place between Ai and Bethel. When God gave His Word to Abraham, he then called on the name of the Lord, built an altar, and gave a sacrifice offering to God.

3. God Has Made Us Righteous By Doing the Impossible (Genesis 17:15-22)

In today’s Scripture reading, we can see that God appeared to Abraham, our ancestor of faith and said to him, “Then God said to Abraham, ‘As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her’” (Genesis 7:15-16). God said that He would give Abraham a son by his wife Sarah the barren. Then Abraham replied: “It would be great if my son Ishmael lived before You and grew up well and inherited my lineage. I understand that You are now comforting me. I appreciate Your concern. Thank You.”

2. We Who Are The Spiritually Circumcised Are God’s Children (Genesis 17:1-14)

We have been distributing our mission books for the spreading the gospel of the Lord all over the world, and at this rate even twenty thousand dollars will not suffice for postage every month. So we have decided not to send out books this week due to our worsening financial situation. It makes me sad to think that people who have ordered our gospel mission books would not get them, so I thought about sending our books to those who have not received many books from us so far, unlike the U.S.A. and Ghana. Sending out books of the Lord’s gospel is so very costly, but I believe it is mandatory for us to do this. We cannot just give up because of our little efforts to collect more funds to spread the gospel. If we carry on our task we can bring to Christ many people who will receive the remission of sins.

5. The Church of God Is Magnificently Beautiful (Genesis 20:1-18)

When we look at the Word of God, especially the Book of Genesis, there are many passages that are difficult to understand. The passage that we have read together today is one of those difficult passages. As we can see here, Abraham the father of faith, referred to his wife as his sister. Wherever he went, he called his wife his sister, and he had Sarah call him her older brother. Because Abraham referred to his wife as his sister, he caused many kings to try to take his wife, and because of this, they suffered much hardship or calamity. Nevertheless, although he lied so much out of fear, Abraham later received much blessing from God. Why this happened is, humanly speaking, very difficult for us to comprehend.

4. Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:12-22)

God decided to destroy Sodom. It was because the sins of the Sodomites abounded in that land. While God was determined to carry out this judgment, people were slow to put their faith in His Word concerning this and also had little faith. In today’s Scripture passage the angels sent by God visited Lot, Abraham’s nephew, and warned them, “We have come to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah along with their sins. We will destroy this land you are living in. Make haste and take your family out of this land right now.” Lot then passed this message of warning on to his daughters and his sons-in-law who were also living in Sodom. He told them urgently, “God said He will be destroying this land along with the sins of its inhabitants, so we should leave this land right now and escape to the mountains.”

7. Remember and Believe in The Love of God (Genesis 22:1-13)

God spoke to Abraham: “Take now your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” God commanded that Abraham’s son be offered up as a burnt sacrifice. He told Abraham whom He loved, to offer his precious son that he had obtained at the age of a hundred as a burnt offering. What did Abraham, our father of faith do when he heard this Word from God? He actually tried to slaughter and offer his son as God the Father had told him to do. Just before he was about to kill his son, God prevented him from killing his son. But in his heart it was as if he had already killed his son and offered him to God. Through the Word of God, what lesson is God attempting to impart to us? God is revealing to us that what He actually and ultimately requires from us is that we should have the faith that believes in the righteousness of God.

6. The Word of God Is Fulfilled without Fail (Genesis 21:1-7)

In today’s Scripture passage, Genesis 21:1-3 says: “And the LORD visited Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him—whom Sarah bore to him—Isaac.” When God spoke these words to Abraham, Abraham was already 100 years old, and his wife Sarah was 91. Who would have thought that this Sarah at this age would bear and wean a child? But, truly God allowed Abraham and Sarah at this ripe old age to bear a child.

9. The Reason God Loved Jacob (Genesis 25:19-34)

As you may know, the Doctrine of Election was established primarily based on this single passage of Scripture which has brought about the most hotly contested and persistent debates in Christian communities. God clearly said, “The older shall serve the younger.” Here the words, “the older” refers to Esau, the firstborn son of Isaac, and “the younger” refers to Isaac’s second born son Jacob. The skin of the firstborn was red and hairy, so he was named Esau, which means “hairy.” And the second born child grabbed hold of his twin brother’s heel as they were being born, and so he was named Jacob, meaning “heel holder” or “supplanter.”

8. We Are the Spiritual People Who Are Married to the Lord (Genesis 24:47-67)

Isaac had reached the age of marriage and Abraham was trying to get his son married. And so he commanded his old servant, saying, “I am now living in the Land of Canaan, so go to the place that I used to live and bring back a wife for my son Isaac.” Abraham called his most trusted servant who was the oldest and most faithful among all his servants and made him swear an oath in the name of God. Abraham then commanded this servant to bring a bride for his son Isaac. This bride could not be from the daughters of the Canaanites but only from among the direct descendants of the household that he had left a long time ago.

10. In Whom Did God Find Joy? (Genesis 25:19-34)

Today’s Scripture passage speaks about Isaac’s twin sons, Jacob and Esau. If you understand the will of God towards Jacob and Esau, then you will be able to know 95% of the will of God. Abraham’s son Isaac gave birth to twins, Jacob and Esau. And when they were still inside their mother Rebekah’s womb, our Lord said, “Two nations are in your womb, two peoples shall be separated from your body; one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older shall serve the younger” (Genesis 25:23). And then the Scriptures tell us, “And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau. Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob” (Genesis 25:25-26).

12. Dig Spiritual Wells (Genesis 26:12-22)

If you have come into contact with someone you are able to confidently share the gospel of the water and the Spirit with, then you must faithfully proclaim the gospel to this person. If you give witness to the gospel persistently to someone, then this person will eventually submit to the gospel. The reason is that no matter how stubborn someone may be, they will bow down their knees before death and will not be able to deny the fact that they are sinners doomed to hell before God. In the face of death, man’s ephemeral life is meaningless and so it is a great opportunity to proclaim the gospel of the water and the Spirit to them.

11. The Lord Works When We Believe in The Gospel of the Water And the Spirit And Wait for His Guidance (Genesis 26:1-15)

In today’s Scripture taken from Genesis chapter 26, we read about the account of Isaac facing a severe famine and leaving for the Land of Gerar. God appeared to Isaac, who was in this dire situation, and said, “Live in the land of which I shall tell you. Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.” Here Isaac was experiencing a severe famine, and was planning to go through the Land of Gerar en route to the Land of Egypt. God then told him, “Don’t go down that road, but live in the land which I instruct you to live in.”

14. Jacob Became a Source of Blessings by Trusting His Mother’s Word (Genesis 28:10-22)

In Genesis 27, which is the prior chapter to today’s Scripture passage, it is recorded how Isaac blessed his son Jacob. Isaac was very old and he had failing eyesight. It was at this time when he called his first son, Esau and said, “Let me bless you abundantly before I die. To do so, go out to the field and hunt game for me and make me my favorite savory food. Then I will eat it and bless you.” Esau then went out to the field to hunt game for the savory food his father loved.

13. Take the Blessings Given to Jacob (Genesis 27:1-29)

It is said the Scriptures are like a picture puzzle that conceals the righteousness of God. Even for me, the more I read the Bible, the more I come to realize this. The Scripture passage I have just read to you today also inspires me with the same comprehension.
Here, Isaac and his wife Rebekah appear, along with Isaac’s two sons, Esau and Jacob. Isaac grew old, so he called his older son Esau and told him to make him some savory food. Isaac intended to eat that savory food and bless Esau for the last time. But Isaac was very old and frail, and also had weak eye sight. And so, his wife Rebekah and his second son Jacob deceived their father, and Jacob instead received this blessing which the oldest son Esau should have received. This is exactly the outline of today’s Scripture passage.

15. God Blessed Those Who Are Unlovable In a Physical Sense (Genesis 29:31-35)

This evening I am going to talk about the life as God’s disciple. We just read the Scripture from Genesis 29 verses 31 through to 35. Here is what this Scripture says: “When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.” God allowed Leah to have four sons by Jacob. She named her first son Reuben, the second Simeon, the third Levi and the fourth Judah. It is written that Leah was recognized and loved by her husband after she gave birth to four sons. What does this mean? This means when God saw that she was not favored, and He opened her womb up so that she could be loved by her husband.
