The Gospel of John Biblical Exposition series you are now listening to consists of 21 chapters and is divided into 4 volumes. This second volume covers chapters 6 through 10. The content is organized by topic and divided into three sections: Biblical Exposition, Question-and-Answer, and Sermon.

John seen from the perspective of the gospel of the water and the Spirit (II) is the second volume of this expository series on the Gospel of John, unfolding the word in John chapters 6–10 through ‘Biblical Exposition,’ ‘Questions and Answers,’ and the author’s sermons.
It examines who Jesus is—He who called Himself the bread of life, the light of the world, the door of the sheep, and the good shepherd—and how He gives eternal life to sinners. The author, pastor Paul C. Jong, unfolds these words from the perspective of the gospel of the water and the Spirit, and preaches that Jesus removed all the sin of mankind and completed our salvation through the baptism He received from John the Baptist, His blood on the Cross, and His resurrection. The purpose of this book is not to leave its readers merely accumulating biblical knowledge, but to lead them to believe in their hearts that the salvation Jesus accomplished is their own salvation.

● Scripture quotations used in this book are from the ‘New King James Version (NKJV)’, ‘American Standard Version (ASV)’.

● This audiobook is an original human creation based on the sermons of Rev. Paul C. Jong. To provide clear delivery and a comfortable listening experience, AI technology was employed only for the voice generation.

John chapter 6 is the chapter that begins with the sign of the five loaves and two fish and makes clear that Jesus Christ is the bread of life. By feeding a great multitude to the full with five barley loaves and two fish, Jesus revealed that He is God, who does what is impossible by human calculation. Then, by walking on the sea and coming to His disciples, He also showed His authority to rule over nature.

In John chapter 6, when Jesus performed signs on the sick, many people followed Jesus, and Jesus went up on the mountain and sat there with His disciples. Jesus asked Philip where they should buy bread so that these people might eat, testing him as well, and finally He took one lunch, gave thanks, and showed the miracle in which about five thousand people ate bread and fish to the full and still twelve baskets were left over. When the people saw this, they followed Jesus and tried to make Him king. They were saying that it would be really good for them if they had such a king. But Jesus shook off their hands and went over to the other side of the sea.

Modern scientists know that the solar system will break down, and they are investigating whether there is a universe like this outside this solar system. The solar system means the sun and all the planets around it, and all those planets are affected by the sun. I have no hobby of wanting to know such fields deeply, so I will tell you only what I have heard, but they say that the sun has aged a great deal. When it ages, it keeps getting hotter and gives off more heat, and if the sun, which until now has sent light and heat in just the right measure, sends heat that is too hot, they say all the surrounding planets will burn up and be destroyed. So the scientists, saying that the earth will be destroyed and the solar system will be destroyed, are exploring whether there is any way to survive.

For today’s message we have read the word of John chapter 6, as we did last time. Verse 41 says, “The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, ‘I am the bread which came down from heaven.’” When Jesus said that He is the bread which came down from heaven, the Jews, who were acting as the masters of the nation of Israel, began to complain about Jesus. Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph? We know His parents, so how does He say that He is the bread which came down from heaven? The people of that time were dumbfounded. It was because the earthly father of Jesus was Joseph. Of course, Joseph was betrothed to Mary, and as we know, an angel came to Mary and told her that she would bear a son.

Today we have looked at this word. On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus cried out and said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” The Jews have three great feasts, and the feast spoken of here is one of them, the Feast of Tabernacles. There are various feasts, but at any rate, on the last day of that great feast, Jesus stood and cried out. He said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” Did the Lord not say that out of the heart of the one who believes in Him would flow rivers of living water? Taken literally, this word means that rivers of living water flow out of the heart of the one who believes.

Jesus went up to Jerusalem for the feast of the Jews and preached this word, and people were trying to seize Jesus and kill Him. But it was not yet the time for Him to die. Jesus is arrested at the time of the feast of the Passover, suffers humiliation, and is put to death. This feast was the Feast of Tabernacles, before the Passover, and He spoke like this: “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” And here, as an additional explanation, this explanatory note was added: “But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:37–38). It says the last day of the feast, and this refers to the Feast of Tabernacles. The people of Israel have three great feasts. There are the Passover, the Feast of Harvest, and the Feast of Tabernacles. The Passover is the feast kept in the days of the Old Testament to commemorate that Jesus would become the sacrificial Lamb and, by sacrificing Himself, make mankind pass over from death; the Feast of Harvest is the feast kept to give thanks and commemorate that they had harvested wheat and barley and come to eat them; and the Feast of Tabernacles is the feast corresponding to Thanksgiving. It is the feast kept to give thanks that the Lord had worked and given them much food and produce throughout the year. Also, the Feast of Tabernacles is the feast kept for a week from the fifteenth day of the seventh month in order to recall that the people of Israel lived in the wilderness for forty years, and to commemorate that they built booths and dwelt in them in the wilderness. It is a great feast for the people of Israel. Among the feasts kept by the church in the days of the New Testament there is Thanksgiving, and it is the same as the Feast of Tabernacles.

It is a great feast for the people of Israel. Among the feasts kept by the church in the days of the New Testament there is Thanksgiving, and it is the same as the Feast of Tabernacles.

Coming to John chapter 8, Jesus meets a woman caught in adultery, in the very act. And the people test Jesus, using this woman’s case as a pretext. In verses 3 to 5 it says, “Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him, ‘Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?’” When Jesus heard those words, He wrote on the ground, and said, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first,” and stooped down again and wrote on the ground, and then looked up. But the people had all gone out. And it says that only Jesus and the woman were left there in the midst. Jesus asked the woman. It says, “‘Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?’ She said, ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.’” (John 8:10–11).

The weather is very hot. In today’s word there is a scene in which the Lord teaches people on the spot.

It is the content of the gospel that we hear most often. The word of John chapter 8 is the word that, through the word that our Lord said to the woman caught in adultery, in the very act, “Neither do I condemn you” (John 8:11), the Lord did not make an unfavorable judgment on this woman but judged her rightly, so that this woman was able to be saved from sin and follow the Lord. This woman was still a lacking person, but she was able to serve the Lord. We read the word that she was able to follow the Lord, be saved from sin, do the work of the light, become a witness of the light, and, living that way, meet the Lord and live well forever.

If we divide the word here into paragraphs, there are several parts. First, looking from verse 21, it says, “Then Jesus said to them again, ‘I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.’” When the Lord said this, the Jews said, “Will He kill Himself, because He says, ‘Where I go you cannot come’?” (John 8:22). Jesus said, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

The word we read today is the word of John chapter 9. “Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.’” (John 9:1–3). The Lord said that He wanted to reveal the works of God in this blind man. A blind man of the body refers to a person who cannot see, who has no sight, and a spiritual blind man refers to a person who does not recognize those who have received the remission of sins. The Lord spat on the ground, made clay, anointed the eyes of this blind man with it, and told him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. So he went and washed and came back seeing. But because of this, a controversy arose. Looking from verse 8, it says, “Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, ‘Is not this he who sat and begged?’ Some said, ‘This is he.’ Others said, ‘He is like him.’ He said, ‘I am he.’ Therefore they said to him, ‘How were your eyes opened?’ He answered and said, ‘A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, “Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.” So I went and washed, and I received sight.’ Then they said to him, ‘Where is He?’ He said, ‘I do not know.’” (John 9:8–12).

When the Lord was on this earth, He spoke many words to His disciples. Because this was the year in which the Lord had to be crucified after the Passover, He said, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work” (John 9:4). Although it was a word the Lord spoke at that time, He spoke it even to the point that we must work now, because later, when the Antichrist appears, we will not be able to work. And after He said that as long as He is in the world He is the light of the world, He spat on the ground and made clay and anointed the eyes of the blind man, and told him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam, and the blind man went and washed and came back seeing. Siloam, when translated, means Sent. It is the word that, since the Lord came to this earth as the Savior sent by God the Father, had our sins transferred to Him with the baptism He received from John, was crucified and died, and rose again from the dead and saved us from sin, we come to receive the remission of sins by believing in that Savior.

Looking at this word, we can see that the Lord has prepared everything concerning our salvation, and that He wanted to become our Savior and also become our shepherd and lead us. God the Father wanted, from before the foundation of the world, to become the true Savior of His people in Jesus Christ, and to become the shepherd who protects and leads us. And He hopes that we will truly know and believe it. He said, “I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture,” and I believe that everything is what the Lord has prepared for us.

I suspect that it is even harder for you and for the churches across the country. So I think that rather than only saying it is hard, we should just work all the harder. Because it is harder if one stays still, and time keeps passing if one is absorbed in the work one has been given, that is how I am living.

God entrusts the work to those who have received the remission of sins, telling them to spread the gospel in this world, to spread the news that He has saved us from sin, and brings them out into this world to have them do this. First, God Himself saved us with the love and salvation of God and embraced us in His bosom. Also, in order to have us save those who have not yet come into the fold, He brings out the sheep, and Himself goes ahead of them and has them do the good works of God in this world. God leads His people and entrusts the works of God to them and accomplishes them.

It is a program with an announcer, people giving testimonies, and an audience, in which people testify of what happened after meeting the Lord and give hope. This morning a woman who is a schoolteacher over sixty years old appeared, and she was a sister who had breast cancer and, while receiving very harsh chemotherapy, had come close to death about twice and survived.
