According to the Department of Public Health, “The Healthy Bahamas Coalition (HBC) functions as The Bahamas’ National Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Commission. It mobilizes the public and private sectors, civil society, academia, and regional partners to develop and implement strategies for the prevention and management of chronic diseases. The Coalition's overarching vision is to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with NCDs among residents of The Bahamas. HBC also advocates for and supports the development of health policy. Through 10 subcommittees addressing key areas such as tobacco control, diabetes and hypertension, older persons’ health and nutrition, the Coalition is committed to improving population health and quality of life. Notable initiatives include the School Water Access Project (SWAP), Healthy Schools Initiative, Break the Silence Campaign, and collaborative projects such as Hope for the Future and the Act on Facts Campaign. In the area of policy, HBC has contributed to the drafting of the Health Promotion and Wellness Bill (2025) and the Rooting Out Violence White Paper.”

Pilot International was chartered on October 18, 1921 in Macon, Georgia, U.S.A. by Elizabeth Leonard and forty local businesswomen. The name “Pilot” was inspired by the mighty riverboat pilots of that day who represented leadership and guidance. The Bahamas District of Pilot International was officially formed in 2004.

She then went on to serve as the Bahamas District Fundraising Coordinator, Governor Elect and Governor before serving as Membership Coordinator at the International level. Saturday 5 July 2025, we will be hosting Ms. Mattea Edgecombe, Ms. Khadeshia Burrows and Ms. Dawn Curry, three dedicated educators with over 10 years of combined experience in teaching and hospitality, who will be facilitating Youth Can Cook Too.

Youth Can Cook Too! is a fun, hands-on culinary summer camp launched in the summer of 2023 at C.V. Bethel Senior High School to teach kids how to cook and give them a skill they'll use for life. Designed for ages 10 to 16, the camp goes beyond recipes, campers learn kitchen safety, build confidence, and discover the joy of making nutritious meals from scratch.

April was Autism Acceptance Month and REACH hosted a series of beautiful events—including Light It Up Blue, an Easter Egg Hunt, and a Fun Run/Walk. Over 100 children received bright and joyful Easter baskets, filling the day with smiles and laughter. The Fun Run/Walk brought together enthusiastic athletes, families, and supporters—all proudly wearing their sky-blue shirts. Over 25 young stars were honored with certificates and awards for their outstanding performance.Our hearts were full—and racing with joy!

In partnership with the United States Embassy Nassau, The Bahamas, CIWiL will be launching the Leveraging Education to Advance Democracy’ (LEAD) program an immersive, 6 session training and mentorship program that will be held on alternate Saturdays commencing February 8th, 2025.

The programme is designed for Bahamian young woman between the ages of 15 and 35 with a desire to learn more about how to support our nation’s democracy. If you have an interest in politics, law, government relations, or supporting your country through increased civic engagement, then consider applying for the LEAD program.

The LEAD program will engage participants in sessions and discussions with leaders in civil society, current and former politicians, advocates and academics in The Bahamas to gain key insights on leadership, democracy, political participation, good governance, citizen responsibility and parliamentary procedure.

Through the program, participants will expand their networks, increase their knowledge of democracy and political participation, and gain key leadership skills. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity designed for young Bahamian girls and women who are ready to make a difference in law, governance, or politics. In addition to her leadership of Map4Good, Vanessa actively supports other ORG work and initiatives, contributing to the organization's broader mission to advance good governance across the nation.

Map4Good focuses on mapping nonprofit organizations (NPO), including faith-based organizations (FBO), providing a comprehensive public directory and an interactive map. This will include key demographic information, services, geographic coverage, and other relevant data to inform decision-making and strategic planning in the sector. This information will be collected via survey and data analysis.

The project is crucial for enhancing the coordination, effectiveness, and impact of NPOs and FBOs in the Bahamas. This project will help address existing knowledge gaps and support better resource allocation, disaster preparedness, and community-based efforts, by providing a foundation for deeper analysis.

The National Commission For Persons With Disabilities is a statutory body that has been mandated to carryout the provisions of the persons with Disabilities Act. Among other functions, The Commission has additional powers and responsibilities. The Work of the National Commission For Persons With Disabilities is assisted and administered by the Secretariat of the Commission. The Secretariat is comprised of a team of full-time personnel, who undertakes the day-to-day affairs of The Commission.

The Commission has the responsibility to:

- Ensure that the rights of all persons with disabilities are respected and upheld;

- Recommend measures to prevent discrimination against persons with disabilities;

- Register all persons with disabilities as well as register all organizations for persons with disabilities;

- Ensure adequate accessibility to health care, education and employment opportunities;

- Monitor, evaluate and ensure compliance with the International Convention on the Right of Persons with Disabilities;

Priden Wilson, Youth Parliamentarian for Englerston, has a fire of love for the youth, dedicating himself to promoting physical health, empowerment, cultural preservation and governmental inclusion. His passion for uplifting young voices is truly inspirational!

Angel Johnson, Youth Parliamentarian for Centerville, is dedicated to helping Bahamians achieve generational wealth and secure affordable, quality housing, with a strong commitment to youth empowerment. Advocating for mental health as a crucial element in nurturing future leadership and driving meaningful change!

In his quest to find his calling, he has served as a Foreign Service Officer at the Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Priority Manager in the Office of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, an Editor-in-Chief, a Research Assistant, and currently a Policy Analyst in the Tourism & Culture Division of the Government of Ontario.

Joining us was Coach Lyndon ‘Lyn’ Wallace, Coach Andrew ‘Moosy’ Wong Sr., and two junior baseball players, eight year old Owen Wells II and seven year old Andrew Wong Jr.

We discussed the historic win, the opportunities available to young players, the work of Coach Lyn and his initiative, The Batter’s Box, as well as the importance of encouraging our young people to get involved in sports, especially the significance of parental involvement and what more can be done to help the sport in The Bahamas.

Mr. Devlyn Stubbs is a Dog Behaviour Therapist and Community Programs Director with over 25 years of professional dog training experience, having developed a passion for dog care and training from a young age. He holds a Pet Trainer I certification and a B.A. in Philosophy, as well as Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Youth Leader and Camp Counsellor Certifications. Additionally, Mr. Stubbs played a key role in coordinating Natures Summer Camp & School Club, as well as 'Potcake Assisted Therapy', both of which are now managed by Pat's Nature Garden Inc. He is the proprietor of Stubsdale Dog Care Center.

Professor Bridgette Hogg is a veteran Bahamian educator, having served at R.M. Bailey, The College of The Bahamas and The University of The Bahamas for a total of 36 years.. She loves being in the education field, working to serve her students and , through them, do her part in contributing to the development of our nation. She has an International Baccalaureate, from the United World College of The Atlantic , Teaching Certificate from the Joint Board of Teacher Education, UWI, a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours and a Master’s degree through the Tropical Metabolism Research Unit of the University of The West Indies. Her professional roles have included Academic Advisor, Researcher, Department Head, Chairperson, Academic Senator and Trustee. Professor Hogg serves as a mentor to youth in science locally and to early career women internationally through the Commonwealth of Learning, Commonwealth Wise Women Project. These are ways that she gives back to help build a brighter future.

She is an avid supporter of pet therapy and her relationship with Frappe, her beloved dog, was strengthened during her experience with Mr. Stubbs’.
