David McCurley and Dr. Eller sat down with Isaac Jennings and Nancy Dixon from the East Alabama Rural Innovation and Training Hub (EARTH) to discuss Earth Day Week, including the VIP Designer Showcase Event on April 23 featuring sustainable fashion designer Jeff Garner, and the Community Gathering on April 24.

Dr. Michele Eller shined a light on Black History Month with special guests from Sylacauga High School, including senior and Black Student Union president Sage Wytch, history teacher and BSU co-sponsor Terrance Howser, and math teacher and BSU co-sponsor Loretta Player.

Dr. Eller unveiled the Portrait of a Graduate, a framework designed to define and measure student progress in mastering essential life skills, as well as the district’s ability to develop graduates who are prepared for success beyond their K–12 experience. Dr. Eller recognized Sylacauga City Schools’ Teachers of the Year: Mr. Justin Browning (secondary) and Mrs. Tanya Heartsill (elementary). Both will be in the running for State Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Eller shined a light on all things band in Sylacauga City Schools, particularly focusing on the achievements and honors of the Marching Aggie Band with Mr. Samuel Childs.

She shared how Sylacauga has joined a national movement of forward-thinking school systems helping drive strategic federal investment in localized research and development. Public Relations Coordinator Crimson Jeffers and Sylacauga City Schools Foundation Director Carol Sprayberry also joined the conversation to preview a full slate of December events across the district, including Breakfast with Santa.

They discussed the power of community involvement and how after-school programs and other strategic initiatives help strengthen and support families across the area.

Dr. Eller will shine a light on being grateful during the month of November. In light of the recent halt on SNAP benefits and Thanksgiving around the corner, Alabama Childhood Food Solutions Executive Director Gene Rogers and Community Relations Coordinator Val Harvey joined the show to discuss food insecurity in the region and how it affects students in schools.

Dr. Eller recognized Red Ribbon Week, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and violence. She was joined by Bobby Hall for a conversation on why these topics matter and how schools play a key role in prevention and education.

October is Modern Manufacturing Month, and Dr. Michelle Eller sat down with Dr. Deana Goodwine, the Director of Workforce Development, to discuss how Sylacauga City Schools are connecting students with hands-on industry experiences across the region.

Dr. Eller welcomed Sylacauga High School Athletic Director, Coach Chad Wilkinson, to discuss the school’s athletics and highlight the contributions of athletic administrators in celebration of last week’s Athletic Administrator Week.

Dr. Eller reflected on the miracle at Legion Stadium during Friday night’s Sylacauga vs. Coosa Central game, when Umpire Joey Shelnutt collapsed from a heart attack and was revived thanks to the courageous men and women who rushed to his aid. She also highlighted the recent chair presentation honoring the Hodges family and emphasized the importance of school attendance starting in September as it impacts funding from the state department of education.

Dr. Michele Eller returned for another year of Midweek Minute with the Superintendent. She kicked off the 2025–2026 school year with everything parents, teachers, and students need to know about updates and upgrades within the school system.

Dr. Jaclyn Rivers and Mr. Chad Littleton joined Dr. Eller to talk about the Multitiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in Sylacauga City Schools. The mission of MTSS is to ensure that every student is supported holistically, including academics, behavior, and foundational wellness.

Dr. Eller brought Michaela Bird, the Theatre Teacher at Sylacauga High School, to the show to wrap up the focus on fine arts for the month of March. Ms. Bird highlighted how theatre classes help develop students and discussed upcoming performances.

Dr. Eller welcomed Samuel Childs, the Director of Bands at Sylacauga High School, to discuss Alabama Education Fine Art Month and the investment of fine arts in schools.

Dr. Eller highlighted the school system’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, alongside the Director of Workforce Development, Deana Goodwine.

Dr. Eller discussed involvement in the Career Tech curriculum at Sylacauga City Schools following the open house, celebrated partnerships with local businesses, and highlighted a new donation to the school system from First Bank of Alabama.

Dr. Eller brought in Rhonda Brewer, the Library/Media Specialist at Sylacauga High School, along with Jordan Moore, a senior at Sylacauga High School and President of the Black Student Union, to discuss Black History Month and the school system’s Black History Month program.

Dr. Eller brought Mrs. Amanda Bolton, a 4th-grade teacher at Pinecrest Elementary School, to discuss the "Hearts Around the USA" campaign. This special campaign was designed to encourage receiving Valentines from each of the 50 states.

Crimson Jeffers, the Sylacauga City Schools Public Relations and Communications Specialist, sat in for Dr. Eller, who joined by phone to highlight the achievements of April Clifton, Sylacauga City Schools Elementary Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Clifton discussed her background and how literacy helps shape the lives of young students.

Dr. Eller brought in high school social studies/history teacher and football defensive coordinator Coach Johnny Safford to the show this week and shined light on his recent recognition as the school system’s Secondary Teacher of the Year.

They also discussed SCS Board Member Dr. Steve Marlowe refereeing the College Football National Championship Game between Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Dr. Morton is the former Sylacauga City Schools Superintendent, the former Alabama State Board of Education Superintendent, and the founder of the Sylacauga City Schools Foundation which recently hit $2 million in invested dollars. He talked about how the foundation started, where funds are allocated, and the future.

Dr. Eller brought in Michael Robinson, the Executive Director of Technology for Sylacauga City Schools, to talk about all things technology, including new security measures in place system-wide when it comes to checking in and visiting campuses.
