Rooted in the melodies of Afrobeat and inspired by the culture of Hip Hop, DJ BLAST is an evolving festival, concert, and nightclub DJ. From diversifying his talent by working with fellow Nigerian artists such as Burna Boy and WizKid to curating crowds for Nas, Trey Songz, Ella Mai, and Pitbull - BLAST can do it all.

After graduating from Texas Tech University in 2015, BLAST moved across the country to Seattle, WA to both work at Microsoft and take on the challenge of shifting the culture so that everyone could experience music beyond what local radio stations could provide. The Lagos-native has entertained thousands in all capacities all from the center of the stage. Ranging from Afrobeat concerts to Hip-Hop festivals, BLAST has the ability to show both his deep African roots as well as his southern upbringing.

David Turner is a self-described “serial entrepreneur”, having owned/operated several businesses since the mid 1990’s. In 2008 David had a conversation that would literally change his life. An acquaintance asked him if he knew anything about the hospice business, and while the answer was no, his interest peaked and he began a career path that would lead to developing several hospice programs in Metro Detroit, for larger health care concerns, and ultimately starting his own hospice in 2014. David made the decision to take his business model, end of life care focused on traditionally underserved segments of the population, to Nashville in 2021 and looks to expand into other select US markets in the coming years.

The mission of David’s national brand, Heart and Soul Hospice, is to increase information, access and utilization of quality end of life care, while simultaneously expanding the presence of people of color in ownership and senior leadership in the hospice industry.

In this episode, Gil Perkins (dba Sage Salvo) walks us through Words Liive, The Opus, and his journey as an “edtech entrepreneur” focused on elevating the level of reading proficiency across the US. Sage puts passion and vigor into everything he does, and he does not disappoint in this episode filled with gems and wisdom.
Armed with a patent-pending algorithm to convert song lyrics into literacy tools, Sage developed a digital platform as a service (PaaS), called The Opus, to facilitate the mass collaboration between music artists and classrooms for automating lesson plans for literacy instruction. Words Liive is organized around a ‘Literacy Moonshot’ goal to get 2/3rds of the nation’s students to grade-level reading proficiency by 2045. Through its beta stage, Words Liive has already serviced over 4,000 educators and parents. Available in program format as well, Words Liive offers a ‘Reading Hackathon’ program for schools looking to boost student literacy performance.
Sage has worked hard to experience several prestigious incubators, accelerators, labs, fellowships, pitch competitions, and summits. Sage is a 2021 Aspen Institute Tech Policy Fellow. Sage has also been selected as a 2021 Elite 200 GSV Cup Startup, a 2021 4.0 Schools Alumni Coach, 2020 AfroTech World Finalist, 2020 Harvard Alumni Launch Lab Accelerator Fellow, 2020 Education Pioneers Fellow, 2018 AT&T Aspire Entrepreneur, 2018 Lean-Lab Fellow, 2017 Clinton Global Initiative – Social Entrepreneur, and 2017 Camelback Ventures Fellow. I’ve known Rudley since our undergrad years, his intelligence, willingness to pour back into others, and his passion for constant learning and progress made him a no brainer as one of my first guests. In addition to his great characteristics, Rudley also happens to be a realtor, author, and a real estate investor. Rudley shared a lot of knowledge in this episode.

Founded in 2015 in collaboration with his wife, Chenda, their business K1 Home Solutions is a professional, full service real estate investing firm that buys and sells properties throughout Georgia, Connecticut and Ohio. In addition to buying and selling real estate, K1 Home Solutions is a huge advocate for educating the youth on real estate investing. Rudley and his 7-year-old son Jayden have written and published a children’s book entitled “Real Estate with My Daddy”.

A.V. and I went to undergrad together, she’s always been someone who possessed incredibly powerful and magnetic energy mixed with a strong dash of fearlessness to try just about anything. I was super excited to sit down and talk with her about her Legacy Hustle journey, as well as to pick her brain so that we could better understand some of the secrets to her success.
A.V. is a DIY expert and creator of Avdoeswhat.com. What began as a traditional Do-It-Yourself blog has grown into a lifestyle platform that includes crafts, upcycled furniture and pop culture. As a digital host for HGTV Handmade along with appearances in Forbes, Bustle, The Pioneer Woman, and BuzzFeed. A.V. is determined to help thrifty millennials realize “Life is better when you Do-It-Yourself!”
A.V. is also the co-creator of University of Dope, an exciting-thought provoking card game that celebrates Hip Hop culture. The first of its kind.
A.V. can be found in and around New York City, especially in your favorite karaoke bars.
