When Looking at Romans from the Perspective of the Gospel of the Water and the Spirit,
A person who embraces the gospel of the water and the Spirit in their heart comes to read Romans completely differently. The moment one opens this letter holding onto the gospel that Jesus had the sins of the world transferred to Him by receiving baptism from John, completely received the judgment of those sins on the cross, and resurrected, it finally begins to be seen why Paul introduced himself as a “debtor to the gospel” and so boldly declared, “I am not ashamed of the gospel.”
The Apostle Paul, after revealing the sins of the Gentiles and the hypocrisy of religious people in turn, proclaims the righteousness of God manifested apart from the law. That righteousness is not a righteousness built up by human moral effort, but the righteousness completed by the baptism Jesus received from John, the blood of the cross, and the resurrection. The righteousness Abraham received when he was uncircumcised is the evidence of it, and the “blessing of not imputing sin” that David sang of is the result of it.
A person who believes this gospel knows that he is one who has already been justified. Only upon that conviction does peace with God reside, and the path opens where even tribulation leads to perseverance, character, and hope. This mystery—that a life which was placed under the reign of death over sin through one man, Adam, has received the removal of sins through one person, Jesus Christ, and has been transferred under the reign of righteousness—takes its place within us.
Salvation has already been completed at once. Now, what remains is the matter of receiving that gospel with the heart and living as a righteous person.

Paul introduces himself as “Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ” Who is Paul? He was a person who learned under the door of Gamaliel, the greatest scholar of the time, was a Pharisee without blemish by the law, and was a person who even possessed Roman citizenship. If he intended to boast, he was a person who had many things to boast about as much as he wanted. However, when Paul introduced himself, the very first thing he put forward was neither learning, nor lineage, nor status. The confession Paul put forward first of all was only the word, “a bondservant of Jesus Christ.”

The head, neck, heart, lungs, limbs, and all organs play their own roles in their respective places, but if they do not harmoniously unite with each other, not a single one can function properly. Likewise, there is an entrusted role for each of us, but if we do not handle that role by faith, the whole cannot function fully, and a creaking will inevitably occur somewhere.

We must look deeply into this. Where is the starting point of sin? It is not in some bad behavior. It lies in this one thing: the heart that hates to retain God in the heart.Think about it. The sin of action does not come first and then the heart becomes bad. That attitude of the heart rejecting God comes first, and from there all sins flow out like a river. Therefore, it says that God gave that heart over as it is. “God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting” (Romans 1:28). Once a mind is lost, it cannot do fitting things and very naturally does things that are not fitting. Why is that? Because the eyes of discernment have become blind.

This evening, we read together the words from Romans chapter 2, verses 6 to 11. Apostle Paul clearly told us in this text what those who have a wrong faith are like, and also how God will recompense those who have a right faith before God. Today, while looking at these words together, I would like to share what God has promised to us who believe the gospel of the water and the Spirit.

He has sequentially exposed the hypocrisy of religious people who judge others, the stubbornness that despises God’s goodness, the justice that repays according to deeds, the vain pride of those who only hear the law but fail to practice it, and even the secret sins that conscience cannot cover up. And now, Paul goes one step deeper and more clearly points out the target of his rebuke.

Let’s look together at why Paul delivered the word to religious people, and how that word reveals the human nature of all ages.

Also, after explaining the function of the law that stops every mouth and brings the knowledge of sin, he finally shows how the righteousness of God manifested apart from the law was accomplished through the ministry of Jesus Christ becoming the propitiation. Viewed from the perspective of the gospel of the water and the Spirit, within this one chapter, the salvation ministry accomplished by the baptism Jesus received from John the Baptist at the Jordan River, the blood of the cross, and His resurrection is clearly manifested.
That is, how Jesus bore the sins of all humanity and how He justifies the person who believes that gospel is vividly unfolded within Romans chapter 3.

In Romans 3:1-2, how did Paul answer the question, “What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision?” (“Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God”), and what does it mean to be “committed” with the word of God?
1. Unlike the words of negative meaning, the benefit of the Jew is clearly affirmed by the word, “Much in every way!”
Romans 3:1-2 seems like a simple rhetorical question, but it is a very important question that the Apostle Paul throws right after accusing the sins of the Gentiles and the Jews in order in chapters 1 and 2. The answer to this question shows how God’s history of salvation entered this earth through Israel, and also how it came to be delivered to all humanity.

Abraham was accounted as righteous by believing the word of God’s promise while he was still uncircumcised. Also, David sang of the blessing of the person who received the removal of sin during the era under the law. The Apostle Paul connects these two facts into a single truth. And he clearly reveals that the channel through which a person is justified is faith from beginning to end.
Looking at this passage from the perspective of the gospel of the water and the Spirit, it is clearly revealed that anyone who believes and accepts the baptism Jesus received at the Jordan River, the blood He shed on the cross, and His resurrection on the third day as one work of salvation is accounted as righteous by God.

One day, God appeared to him and told him to look at the stars in the sky, and promised that He would make his descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and Abraham believed that Word exactly as it was. The Apostle Paul has disclosed in detail the fact that all people are under sin from Romans chapter 1. He clearly revealed that whether Jew or Greek, whether a person who has the law or a person who does not have it, all are sinners without a single exception.
And going to Romans chapter 3, he declares that now the righteousness of God has appeared apart from the law. In chapter 4, taking Abraham as an example, he clearly reveals the fact that a person becomes righteous not by deeds but by the faith that believes in the word of God. After binding all these stories into one, Paul is saying, “Therefore.”
