In today’s Scripture reading Abraham’s son Isaac appears. And God appears to this Isaac and speaks to him. In the Bible we find many cases where the people of faith suffered famine. Abraham went down to Egypt because of famine, and Naomi as well as Lot also went down to the Moab region because of a severe famine. And as you can see today in the Book of Genesis chapter 26, Abraham’s son Isaac is said to have also gone down to Abimelech because of famine.

How did you and I receive the remission of sins? Did we receive it by chance? Did we meet our Lord because we were somehow wiser, smarter, or even more spiritual than anyone else? Is it possible for anyone to meet the Lord through his or her own merits? No, not at all!

3. All the Blessings Given to Us Have Also Come from Our Lord (Genesis 27:1-29)

Today’s passage of Scripture we have just read together describes how Jacob listened to his mother’s advice, disguised himself with goat skin, and then approached his father and was blessed in his brother’s name. When some people read this passage they consider it strange that Isaac blessed Jacob and cursed Esau, saying that Jacob was an unscrupulous liar. In their eyes, people like Jacob are liars, while people like Esau are honest people.

That is why the Bible teaches all of us humans how we can receive the remission of our sins from God. Therefore, it is the only guide book on salvation, the blueprint on salvation, and the manual for salvation. It deals with the salvation of every individual in various ways.

7. Discern Correctly Between a True Shepherd And a False One (Genesis 29:1-14)

As mentioned here, Jacob was on his way to his uncle’s house fleeing from his older brother Esau’s wrath. This was because he used his older brother’s name and had worn Esau’s clothing and had gone before his father. And he received the blessings that Esau should have received. When Isaac’s eyesight grew dim and could not see anything properly anymore he asked Jacob who was standing before him, “Are you really Esau,” Jacob replied, “Yes, I am your eldest son Esau.” He actually said this to his father. Before this incident, Jacob purchased his birthright with a bowl of lentil stew, and now he received the prayer of blessing from his father instead of Esau. And when his brother found out how he manipulated this, he attempted to kill his younger brother. When this happened Rebekah said to Jacob, “If I don’t do something, I will lose both of my sons in one day. Go to your uncle Laban’s house and stay there for a while and then return later.” Jacob did as his mother said because he was in a dire situation where he had to flee for his life. On his way to Haran, Jacob was blessed by God through a dream while sleeping at Bethel.

6. Who Are Blessed by God? (Genesis 28:10-19)

Today I would like to ruminate with you through the Word of God on the question, “Who the really blessed are?” Our God says clearly that He will not give the blessings of Heaven just because of some righteous act by man. Rather, one must realize that God gives these spiritual blessings from Heaven including earthly blessings only to those who eat the flesh of Jesus Christ and drink His blood by faith. Let’s then examine step by step how God gives His blessings to everyone, and exactly what faith one must have to receive them.

8. Let Us Live for The Righteousness of God (Genesis 30:25-43)

My fellow believers, when will our Lord return? He will return when He wants to return. When will our Lord come back? He will come back exactly as He said He would come back. The saints will be raptured when the seven trumpets are blown, and the Lord will return after pouring the seven bowls out on this earth. Do you believe this? I have taught you what will happen in these last days. My teachings are based exactly on the Word of God. As a servant of God and your leader, I myself have prophesied about the end times according to the written Word because I believe in this Word and not by anything else that comes from my own thoughts. Indeed, there is nothing else for us to do except to believe in God’s Word exactly as He said. And all that we have to do is just preach the gospel of the water and the Spirit diligently until the day our Lord returns.

9. Let Us Do Special Ministry Before the Presence of God (Genesis 30:25-43)

A long fourteen years had passed since Jacob started working at the house of Laban, his maternal uncle. During this time Jacob married Leah and Rachel, Laban’s two daughters. And between these two daughters Jacob loved Rachel the more. To marry Rachel, Jacob had to labour for seven long years herding his uncle’s sheep. He worked for seven years diligently day and night feeding and scraping away sheep’s dung and delivering lambs, and at last it happened that he was going to be marrying Rachel. But in the morning following the wedding night, he woke up to find the woman who was beside him was Leah and not Rachel. So Jacob married Leah first because of Laban’s deception. Jacob then protested about this saying, “I worked hard to marry Rachel, but why have you given me Leah?” When Jacob complained how Laban switched the brides on his wedding night, Laban said, “In our country there are no precedents of the younger marrying before her older sister,” and then promised, “So after seven days of celebrating this wedding feast, I will give Rachel to you also, but you will have to labor another seven years for her.” And so Jacob followed those words and worked for another seven years. This time he was able to have Rachel who became his second wife, and so like this, it had taken him fourteen years to form his own household.

11. Marry Within Your Own Tribe (Genesis 34:18-27)

Jacob had many sons but only one daughter. This daughter’s name was Dinah. But an incident occurred where Dinah was raped by Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite as she went out to see the daughters of the Gentile land. Because of this incident, Shechem, a prince of the Hivites wanted to marry Jacob’s daughter. To this, Jacob’s sons said to the Hivites, “If you want to enter into a marriage with us, you all must be circumcised,” informing them that this was their tradition. When considering these words from the sons of Jacob, Shechem and his father Hamor thought, “If we were to receive circumcision and enter into a marriage with the tribe of Jacob, all their many sheep, goats, and oxen will be ours as well. So, if we were to enter into a marriage with the Israelites, wouldn’t all their wealth become ours too?”

10. Live in This World by Faith (Genesis 34:1-17)

We are leading a life of faith after having been saved from sin by believing in the Lord-given gospel of the water and the Spirit, and from now on we must not love this world as much as we love God. Although I am admonishing you not to love the world, it’s probably not easy for those of you who have loved this world to stop doing it right away. Everyone is stubborn in their own way, and this is the problem. You also are probably trying to live according to your stubborn desires.

12. The Righteous Must Fulfill Their Duty (Genesis 38:1-30)

Among the twelve sons of Jacob mentioned in this passage of Scripture, Judah is spoken of and he became the ancestor of the royal tribe. It is written here that Judah took a wife for his son Er and the name of his daughter-in-law was Tamar. And she was a Gentile woman.

14. Store Up the Bread of Life By Faith throughout The Whole World (Genesis 41:46-57)

When Joseph was in jail under a false charge, Pharaoh had a dream in the royal court and this dream impacted him greatly that he was greatly troubled by it. But there was no one who could interpret the king’s dream from among his loyal servants. Right then the chief butler of Pharaoh remembered Joseph who had interpreted his dream in jail and recommended him to the king. And so Joseph was summoned by Pharaoh and he interpreted this dream, and because of this, he became the governor of Egypt and delivered that country from the famine that the dream had foreshadowed. Today I would like to deliver a message to you on the deep spiritual meaning of Joseph’s interpretation of the dream of this king.

15. Do God’s Work With the Eyes That Look Far Ahead (Genesis 42:1-5)

During this time of famine, there was also a severe famine in the land of Canaan where Jacob and his sons were living. And so, the sons of Jacob had to go to the land of Egypt to obtain grain.
