Fall ball returns in October to Blue Wahoos Stadium 

Tickets go on sale this morning at 9 a.m. for the Oct. 10 matchup of FSU against Auburn in a fall baseball scrimmage at the bayfront stadium.

That will be followed on Oct. 17 with Alabama vs. Georgia Tech, with those tickets going on sale Aug. 18 at 9 a.m.

property taxes and homestead exemptions. Budgets for one fire district in Pace was three times their budget from year before -

some arent paying property taxes - every year you live in your house - it cant go up more than 3% per year for taxes if youre homesteaded. Folks who move in new - dont immediately get beneift of homestead tax  exemption.  Statewide Tax referendum. Early voting is this week. 

Councilwoman for Pensacola District 1, Jennifer Brahier,  joins the show to discuss: concerns and highlights in the budget as its being presented today - concerns: LOST which will also be on the ballot in the fall - biggest concern is shifting money from general fund to LOST (local option sales tax).

Jennifer is serving on the canvasing board. That includes putting the ballots through the machine, getting ballots read properly. Testing the machines , going through signatures ballots that were mailed in making sure people domt overvote or undervote - . Doing work behind the scenes  and making sure the peoples choices are protected. There are three on the canvasing board. 

Every voter in Escambia County will have something in their ballot - one thing is: should the Escasmbia County school superintendent  be elected by majority? You can vote yes or no.

The 8am hour has Principal Richard Shackle of Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola joining Jennifer this morning.  He won the statewide Florida TaxWatch Principal Leadership Award in early 2026 for his effective work at the high-risk public school. He previously served as principal at Tate High School. He talks about searching for scholarships early, registering for classes, academic career progessing, ACT and SAT test scores. Last year they had 16 seniors that graduated with a higher than a 4.0 GPA. Principal Shackle talks about taking AP classes and dual enrollment. 

Sam Strickland is the President of our Escambia County Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provides training between the units, insure compliance, accounting and building community across the schools like monthly events. They do "Connection Cafes" where they field questions about the schools. You can volunteer with your local PTA. Family participation is a huge thing for children and the schools. Para Park area resurfacing near Chumuckla Highway.  Parking on the beach and the dunes - what is the issue about their not being an ordinance?  They can ticket you but not tow you so an ordinance is possibly happening so they can address that. RV Parking is an issue with another possible ordinance for not parking on right of way.  The only rule about RVs is living in them. Beach event happened with a shot fired near the wharf restaurant (not the orange beach concert venue) - someone accidentally shot themselves in the leg, Pcola beach lot (Casino Beach Parking lot) closed in 5a hour for Blues  Thu and Fri.  Sheriff says the Sheriff's Department only uses their 5 or 6 spots near the precinct.  Says lifeguards had trouble finding spots, firetrucks also.  Man stole his friend's truck, fled and eluded and was tased.  Burglary at Crabs You Got Em on the Beach.  Overnight arrest of man with cocaine and marijuana charged with trafficking. Horrible story about parents of a daughter that they neglected.

Voted 7 - 0 kept millage the same ; Andrew's comments: - If you want to avoid property tax referendum passing - if you really want to persuade - if you dont pass it we will implement this poilicy which will still help with milliage - pay them off offer them, offer them a deal.  

Replay from yesterday - US Representative Jimmy Patronis joins the show He talks about:  Daylight Savings Time - do we opt out? Arizona opted out. Blue Angels Air Show - we flew 5 jets instead of 6. Rep Patronis was in town to watch the Blues fly.  Claim that it was over 250,000 people on the beach for Saturday's air show - a different type of enthusiasm turned out.   We received millions of dollars woth of free publicity with media after the low pass.  Rep Patronis was our CFO for awhile. He talks about storms on the Gulf Coast. He says: We are in hurricane season. Use your smart phone. Get footage of your house inside and out - a slow vidoe talking to yourself. Email them to yourself. God forbid you have damage. Insurance people are going to want to ascertain fault. All of this will speed up the claims process.  Citizens may stifle opportunity when trying to ban Data Centers , whatever is on your phone - China can see it if youre using Tik Tok as China tries to beat us in tech. He  (Rep Patronis) says he cant supoort Data centers if it increases electric rates for local citizens. Capital expenses taking place, what dependency the world is going to have on AI.
